TRI NORTHWEST: A Local Home Base for Pacific Northwest Triathletes
If you've ever spent an evening jumping between a race director's outdated website, a regional Facebook group, and three different registration platforms just to figure out where and when a triathlon is actually happening — TRI NORTHWEST was built to fix exactly that problem.
What it is
TRI NORTHWEST is an independent, PNW-focused triathlon hub covering Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia. No global event firehose, no noise from races you'll never drive to — just the swim, bike, run (and duathlon, aquabike, and swim-run) events that are actually relevant to athletes training and racing in this region.
At its core is a curated events calendar, broken out by sub-region — from Seattle and Spokane to Boise and Coeur d'Alene, from Vancouver Island to the Okanagan. Each race entry aims to include dates, location, course notes, maps, registration links, and results when available, so you're not stitching that information together yourself from five different tabs.
More than just a calendar
What sets the site apart is the depth behind each listing:
- Live and hourly race-week weather, including AQI, so you know what conditions to expect before you even leave the house
- A finish-time calculator that accounts for heat, for a more realistic prediction than a flat pace calculator gives you
- 50+ dedicated open water swim pages — a category that's often an afterthought on other sites, but a big part of PNW multisport culture
- Clubs, coaches, and race director directories, organized by state/province
- A Triathlon 101 library covering everything from transitions and competition rules to nutrition and a race-day checklist
- A weekly "What's Happening" digest rounding up regional news and race updates
How it's curated
This isn't an automated scrape of some national events API. Every listing is added and reviewed manually, pulled from official race sites, registration platforms, timing companies, and direct submissions from athletes and organizers. Details change constantly in this sport — swim cancellations, course changes, weather deviations — so the site leans on real curation rather than static data dumps. (That said: always double-check details on the official race site before registering or booking travel — TRI NORTHWEST isn't the official site for any event unless explicitly noted.)

Why it exists
TRI NORTHWEST started as a spreadsheet — a regional triathlon list maintained by hand for a local triathlon club for years before it became a proper site. The goal hasn't changed since: help athletes in this corner of the country spend less time hunting for information and more time actually training and racing.
